	Mission Statement

The Mountain View Guidance and Counseling Department is committed to helping students attain their full academic potential. As school counselors our mission is to provide a comprehensive 7-12 program that promotes and enhances the learning process for all students, through the integration of academic, career, personal, and social development.

	Guidance Services-Academic Support

Academic support services through the Guidance Office at the high school include: academic advisement, academic skills support: organizational, study and test-taking skills, learning style assessment, and collaboration with parents.


	Guidance Services: Career Preparation

Guidance Services for career preparation include: assistance in identifying interests and strengths, goal setting, examining job trends, yearly contact with community professionals, and preparing for work in a diverse and changing society.


	Guidance Services: Post-secondary Education and Training

Guidance Services for post-secondary education or training include: assistance examining options, exploring jobs through shadowing and apprenticeships, and the nuts and bolts of applying to colleges and obtaining financial assistance.


	Guidance Services: Social/Emotional Counseling

Social/emotional counseling through the Guidance Office at the high schol includes: assistance in understanding self and others, peer relationships and social skills, problem solving, coping strategies, crisis intervention and referral.
